After multiple public speeches.. hours petitioning.. speaking with business owners.. paperwork… speaking with doctors…. nurses.. ect… my first internship with the Sierra club last fall, and continued work with the Salem Beyond Coal Campaign has paid off. The port of Coos Bay has ended the proposal for a coal export terminal. YAY.

We did it! The coal trains will not be coming past my university, through my city and more importantly through the homes of the wonderful people I have gotten to know and worked with these last 9 months.

We will continue to work against the coal exports in the PNW because our water supply, health and future climate will still be impacted. But it is great to know that the first port proposal has ended. SUCCESS.

It is a terrific feeling knowing that it did not take crazy activism but just ensuring the community knows what is happening and has the opportunity to voice their opinions. Beautiful.
